Officially the City of Mandaue and often referred to as Mandaue City, is a city in the province of Cebu in the  Philippines. It is one of the three highly urbanized cities on the island and forms a part of the Cebu Metropolitan Area. Mandaue City is located on the middle eastern coastal region of Cebu, bordering to its right-side are Mactan Island where Lapu-lapu City is located. Mandaue is connected to Mactan Island via two bridges which includes the Mactan-Cebu Bridge and Marcelo-Fernan Bridge and is bounded south and the west by the Provincial Capital, Cebu City and north by Consolasion which is linked with Cansaga Bay Bridge. The city has an area of 2,518 hectares (6,220 acres) with a total population of 331,320 people as of the 2010 census. Mandaue City is part of the Sixth District of Cebu joined with the municipalities of Consolacion and Cordova. Although qualified for a lone district since 1991, this was neglected by lawmakers. Mandaue is a highly urbanized city but is administered with the supervision of the provincial government.

The Mandaue City Council or Sangguniang Panglungsod (SP) is a governing body of Mandaue City. It is composed of 10 elected members as City Councilors. The two other members are the President of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) and the President of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) or Youth Council.

NATIONAL SHRINE OF ST. JOSEPH PARISH



A community was established in Mandaue by a flourishing group of Austronesian people. The Venetian chronicler Antonio Pigafetta wrote of a settlement called Mandani which existed in the area with a chieftain named Apo Noan then a few decades later another ruler named Lam Busan.Mandaue natives were forced into a town as decreed by the Spanish authorities. This may have started off as a mission village (which included present day ConsolacionLiloan and Poro) serving as a bulwark for the church in the northern Cebu and was managed by the Jesuit in 1638 then a century later by the Recollects.The Philippine revolution in 1898 gave the town a new form of administration in accordance with the organic decree of the Central Revolutionary Government. The short-lived revolution was overthrown by the American Troops and a battle nearly destroyed the town in 1901, killing Presidente Benito Ceniza.
Mandaue became independent from being an American Commonwealth and a Japanese Garrison on July 4, 1946 along with the entire nation. Mandaue became a chartered city on June 21, 1969 by Mayor Demetrio Cortes Sr. The city was recognized as a HUC (Highly Urban City) on 1991. Oldest accounts of Mandaue's population was written in Bosetta and Bravo's Diccionario between 1637 to 1638 was 11,034. During the first year of its township in 1899, Mandaue had 42 barrios and with a population of 21,086. When Mandaue was a second class municipality in 1964 and had a population of 33,811. According to the May, 2010 Philippine census, Mandaue City has a projected population of about 331,320 people. Mandaue has a significantly large population which is in and below the poverty line.


PANAGTAGBO FESTIVAL
The “Traslacion” or the meeting of the images of the Holy Family in Mandaue City has long been the traditional prelude of the annual feast of the Sr. Sto. NiƱo and the Sinulog celebration.In this year’s 31st celebration of Sinulog, the people of Mandaue plans to honor the traditional Traslacion through song and dance.The Taga-Mandaue Inc. (TMI), a non-government agency supported by the Mandaue City Government, organized the first-ever Panagtagbo Festival, which will be held on Jan. 12, or a day before the Traslacion.TMI president Clarito Fruelda, in a news conference yesterday, said that the Panagtagbo Festival is an attempt of the city to not only honor the meeting of the images of the Holy Family, but also to further deepened the faith of Mandauehanons to St. Joseph, the city’s patron saint.On Jan. 12, about 75 students from different high schools in Mandaue will dance to the Panagtagbo jingle, which will depict the meeting of the Holy Family. It will be held at the Mandaue City Plaza near the National Shrine of St. Joseph.

The total length of the city road network (paved and unpaved) and the four bridges, is about 133.676 kilometres (83.062 mi), broken down into:
National road - 13.1587 kilometres (8.1764 mi)
City road - 57.0954 kilometres (35.4774 mi)
Barangay road - 63.4219 kilometres (39.4085 mi)
Road density is 3.83 kilometre per square kilometre of land. In terms of population, road density is about 0.52 kilometre per one thousand inhabitants.
Land transportation is being served by PUJ, Utility Vehicles, mini-buses, multi-cabs, tricycles, trisikads and for cargoes, trailers and vans. Sea transport of Mandaue is highly dependent on Port of Cebu and Cebu International Port, because of the city's proximity to these facilities. Likewise, air transport is through theMactan International Airport has direct international flights to Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, China, Palau, Malaysia, Taiwan, Qatar, South Korea and other key Philippine Cities, via the two Mandaue-Mactan bridges.

SUBANGDAKU MURALS 
Walls to be covered in murals conveying importance of environmental protection. Local mural artist Ag Sano, poses with a flyover column in Subangdaku, Mandaue City, Cebu serving as canvas for his artistic creativity. Mandaue and the Cebu Kabanay Lions Club have teamed up for the beautification and promotion of environmental awareness in Subangdaku, and a related activity is having artists like Ag Sano paint up vacant walls and spaces with murals conveying an environmental theme.
